How Do We Know That When the Sun Goes Nova the Surface of the Earth Will Burn?
It is estimated that in 4.5 million years or so our Sun will go to a nova and that means it will expand to a point that will encompass the Earth’s orbit, and therefore, it will burn the earth up. Well not actually, but it will burn the surface of the planet as per the theory, and even boil off all the oceans of the world. Life as we know it will cease to exist. At least that is what the theory tells us, however maybe we need a contrarian view.
Did you know that when you add energy to an atom, the electrons immediately move out to a further orbit? Who is to say that the precursor waves shooting off from the Sun when it goes nova will not push the earth out into a further orbit? Meaning, the earth will not burn up, sure the temperature may change, and the event will cause a huge temporary problem for our atmosphere, but all species may not die off, especially those that live underground for the most part during this event.
Of course, all this is predicated on Earth’s planetary life not coming to an end before the next 4.5 Billion years. In fact, there could be 10 or even 100 of events causing near extinction to all life on the planet during such a vast period of time. And realize these comments are not to say that particle physics and planetary astrophysics are the same, we know that they aren’t. But we do know that some things are similar, and from an observational standpoint they often look the same only on a different scale.
Now getting back to particle physics; when you take the energy away from an atom the electrons go back to their original orbit. And who is to say that the Earth’s orbit will not do the same? The truth is we don’t know and everything else is speculation, including all the current theories.
Until we observe planets being burned up as other Suns that are our size go nova, and until we are able witness planets our size, next to Suns our size at the same distance to one another, to view during such event, and have relevant up close data of such a planet’s atmospheres and surface, we cannot know all of this information for sure.
So perhaps we need to rethink that theory and consider alternate theories of what might happen. For all we know the Earth could be sent out to a place that would cause it to freeze, rather than burn up, which is something I’ve never heard discussed. Please consider all this.
